How to close "open" .exe files.

When i download exe files and the downloading is terminated, i get a un-deletable and un-openable non-valid Win 32 exe file. How do you get rid of these? Also, if I change the file extension of any other file to .exe, it says the same thing: that the file is open and must be closed first. How do I "close" these files? I don't even know what program is keeping them open. I have a 4.7 Gb ISO file that i changed to an exe file and now I can't do ANYTHINg with it or delete it. Any help would be very greatly appreciated....thanks

It didn't work at all at first, and I had to try numerous times to figure out that you have to change the file name or press the delete button BEFORE the unlock, otherwise it doesn't work. That's not so convenient at all, but at least it works. Thanks a million...
