Install XP on a 3gib hard drive?

My hard drive crashed yesterday (dóh!). I am on my old computer now with the win95 op. I can´t believe anyone ever used win95 because everything about it is crap. So I would like to install WinXP instead. My computer has 256 mb ram (will work), but only a 3gib hard drive. Will 3gib be enough, or do I need a bigger disc to install WinXP?

XP SP2 would probably just fit.

No room for anything else.

Plus the Page File that XP uses on the hard drive would tend to be non existent: hence: SLOW.

Although possible definitely not advisable.

If you really insist and want to fool around with it,
a slimmed down version of XP using eg
XPlite http://www.litepc.com/
or nLite http://www.nliteos.com/nlite.html
might do it.
Be prepared for limited functionality as well as possible hardware problems.
Regardless, there's nothing to stop you from trying
