Installing Windows XP

I recently got a virus (Virus Protect Pro) on my desktop computer. To get rid of it I erased my entire hard drive and intended to reinstall Wimdows XP.The process goes OK untill the screen says "Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick)". At this point the computer reboots and returns to the installation Windows Setup (Welcome to Setup).Then the cycle starts over again. What am I doing wrong and how can I cure this problem. In answering, please bare in mind that I'm damm near computer illiterate so plain english will be appreciated. Thanks!

How did you erase the drive?

Try not using the "Quick" option but the full option to format NTFS.

If problems continue try using GParted to format the drive prior to installing XP.
