PC Hanging

I have an AMD Athlon processor and 512 MB RAM and have XP as an OS. Before I had an 256 MB RAM and when I used to start the computer it would continuously send beep signals. My hardware guy who came to my place to see the pc told that RAM has got damaged. So I bought a new one with double the space as mentioned above. For a couple of weeks it worked but now my pc is startng alright but whenever I am clicking any icon to open that particular software the pc gets hanged. Has the RAM again got bad ??????? Pls suggest me what to do

What exactly happens?

Does the entire computer freeze up?

Do you have to shut the power off?

Check your Event Viewer via Administrative Tools.

Open the System as well as Application tabs and look for red X errors that coincide with your problem. Details here:

How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Basic information on Event Viewer errors can be found here: EventID.Net

If it is a solid freeze it is usually a hardware problem but RAM problems usually produce a non-boot as you had previously. You can test your RAM with MemTest.

Is the computer clean inside? Do all the fans work? Any idea what your temperatures are?
