Not Enough Space on C:

I have a couple of problems.

The first problem is that I accidentally partitioned my drive wrong. I gave my C: drive a mere 5 gigs and now I'm constantly running out of room.

The problem is that I don't have the windows install disc, nor do I have the key code. Both of those were lost when I moved.

Because of this, I was unable to install service pack 2. I had to use an old key code that is "illegal" according to Microsoft, although it was the original code that came with this computer.

The hard drive is formatted as Basic NTFS. I was wondering if there was some way that I could expand C: by giving it some of the other partitioned space without actually deleting any information?

It's been a long time, but I recall something about converting a drive to dynamic, where the drive could be more flexible, but it's been so long that I'm afraid to do it, especially since I don't have 200mb available for a system restore point.

I've been through the drive. I've uninstalled anything I could find that I could reinstall on another drive. I've deleted anything that I knew that I could delete, but I don't know what else to delete to get more space. Disk cleanup only gives me so many options and I've done what I could with them.

The drive is partitioned 3 ways. C for the system, E for programs and F for documents and pictures. There is plenty of room on either of these extra partitions if there is some way that I can use some of that extra space to give to C without formatting C. It's very possible that I can move everything from my Documents partition to my Programs partition so that Documents is empty.
Is there a possibility of this?

Hi Micke and welcome to Tech Help Forums. Please note that many users of illegal software claim they lost their CDs while moving, yet we have no way of proving or disproving whether someone is telling the truth - so this puts us in a bind. Is this person honest or not? Do we help a thief or not?

Since you are not asking how to crack your copy of Windows, I will offer a little advice, but I strongly recommend you go out a buy a new legal copy of Windows as soon as possible. Then control your CDs responsibly. This is important because illegal software users are a MAJOR source of malware, and a major security threat to the rest of us, because, like you, they have not updated their systems with the latest security patches and updates. Badguys target these vulnerable systems and use them as tools to spread spam, viruses, Trojans and spyware.

I recommend you do 3 things:

1. Run CCleaner to free up space. It is a great disk cleaning program that is excellent at cleaning the system of 1000s of temporary files, including all history, old logs, and cache files. During installation, uncheck the option to install the Yahoo toolbar. Before first use, go to Options > Settings > Advanced and ensure Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours is unchecked. To delete all "tracking" cookies, (which I urge you do), you must delete all cookies, so ensure the Cookies setting remains checked. Ensure you know your site credentials (user name and password) for sites you frequent; you will have to login again at next visit.

2. Move your Page File and My Documents from C: to another partition.

3. If still not enough room, buy Partition Magic - a useful tool to resize partitions.
