slowed computer

I recently switched from AVG to Avira virus protection based on other's recommendations. However I have noticed that my computer has gotten much S L O W E R!

I am wondering if this is the problem or could it be something else? I am also running an older version of spyware, AdAware SE and my noneffective Yahoo spyware.

Any recommendations on either type of protection would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Jess

Hello, and Welcome to techhelpforum.

Have you uninstalled AVG?

If your Yahoo spyware is "noneffective" get rid of it. Uninstall it. It's possibly using resources which may be contributing to your problem.

Is there a reason you are running older versions of spyware, and AdAware SE?

I have never used Avira, but some research on it shows it has produced false positives, and updating isn't always smooth. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avira ) It's possible that this factor is also contributing to your slow machine.

I recommend Avast! for an Anti-Virus. It's free, effective, and it updates itself smoothly and automatically.

Post back with any further questions.
