Need help!

i'm not exactly sure what is the problem..
i deleted something from my system and now my com is unable to run all exe files..
i did something to semi-repair it about 2 days ago.. but now it can run the exe files but i have to specify and select the exe file from its designated folder first.. this means that i must have already install the program in my com and i can't install any new programs..
i've tried reformatting my com but it doesn't read the disc
i would appreciate any help and sorry for the unclear description

Hello, and Welcome to techhelpforum.

Run a file check on the O/S. Click START, RUN, type in

sfc /purgecache

This ensures that system files are copied from your Windows installation media, and files which may be infected with malware or corrupted are not copied from your drive.

Then type in

sfc /scannow

Have your XP CD handy as you may need it.

Post back with your results and any further questions.

thanks for helping me~
i did what u stated already.. but similar to the problem tt i have.. this is what popped up..

Windows cannot open this file:
File: sfc.exe
To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually selelct from a list of programs on your computer.

What do you want to do?
-use the web service to find the appropriate program
-select the program from a list

To open the exe files.. what i would do go to where it is located, and select it from there, meaning i did option 2. I did the same for the sfc file for both that u mentioned. Both times what pop up was a black program and ended in less than a second. repeated tries yielded the same results.

The process described here uses a Windows XP CD - & not a “Recovery Disk” or “Restore Disk”.

Disconnect from any networks during a repair install. It can also help to disconnect cameras, Webcams, scanners, printers, usb drives, and other extraneous equipment.

Boot the machine with your XP CD.

If you see the message “Press any key to boot from CD”,
hit Enter.

“To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER”,
hit Enter.

When the option to press R to enter the Recovery Console is offered, do not select it.

When the Windows XP Licensing Agreement is displayed onscreen, press F8 to agree.

Next, check that the installation of Windows XP you wish to repair is selected in the box, and then press the R key to repair Windows XP.

Follow the instructions onscreen.

When finished with a repair installation, make sure the firewall, antivirus, and antispyware programs are running before reconnecting to any networks. Then proceed to Windows Update to check for any patches that may need to be re-applied.

when i try to repair it.. it goes to press any key to boot from cd.. but when i do so, it auto goes to continue starting up windows.. making me unable to repair the windows version that i have.
is there anyway to go around this problem?
or do i need to change a reformat disc?

Is your keyboard a USB or Wireless?

If so, you should try a "hard-wired" keyboard (PS2).

what's a hard-wired keyboard?.. i think i wanna get one

A keyboard with a PS2 connector. A small round connector at the end of the keyboard cable. Usually a purple or red colour.

Your keyboard evidently isn't responding early enough in the boot process as the USB support isn't engaged yet. This is why you can't boot from the CD when you "press any key", it doesn't recognize the key entry. A PS2 keyboard is a handy thing to have in these instances.
