takes long to open somthing

hi i jus moved in to my moms house..she has this old computer thats running xp..its not in bad shape but it works fine....but i have this problem everytime i open my internet it takes long to open my home page...but after that any other page opens pretty fast.....but the main reason im asking this is bcuz i like playin online poker now i have a good connection but like i said every table i get into... takes forever to load...it takes atleast 1 min or more to open up the table (window)...what could i do to speed up my computers abilty to open its windows (like my homepage,,email page,,,websites,,)faster...my connection is perfect..but it takes long to open somthing
