Question DVD Missing Audio

Greetings,

Running XP Pro on a 2.66 Core 2 Duo machine. I find that when I play back commercial DVDs, I'm missing what seems to be one channel of audio. In many movies, the background music is fine, but the character voices cannot be heard. Other sounds that I know are there can't be heard.

this same issue occurs whether I use Windows media Player, Power DVD, or whatever for playback.

Other audio playback on this computer is fine (CDs, games, mp3, etc...) I'm running an MSI Motherboard with integrated audio.

A quick web search seems to indicate it's a driver issue, but I keep getting directed to driver download sites that are dubious at best. Last time I naively visited one and clicked on something...the malware pretty much flooded me.

anyway ...any sense of direction would be helpful.

Thanks!

Leon

Post the MSI Motherboard exact model/version.

Or, download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under Multimedia, or, under Multimedia, PCI / PnP Audio. This will tell you what sound devices you have available on your system. Post that information.

Also look under MOTHERBOARD and post what is listed for your Motherboard (make/model) and the motherboard Chipset description.

Or better yet, once Everest is finished loading and running, click on the Report Wizard in the Menu Bar. Save all hardware related pages (the default) to a TEXT file in a location of your choice. (It will default the location to C:\Program Files\Lavalys\EVEREST Home Edition\Reports, unless you redirect it.)

Compress (zip) the text file and attach that zipped text document to your next posting. (When posting, click on Advanced, and just below the posting box you'll see "Additional Options", and within that, "Attach Files". Click on "Manage Attachments" and follow the prompts. Browse to the file and choose UPLOAD.)

DVD Missing Audio

greetings all,

Dan, thanks for the response. I ran the everest software. Wow... I know more more about my system than I ever imagined. In any case, I've taken your suggestion and attached the report file the program generated. My Motherboard is an MSI P6N SLI, NVIDIA nForce 650i Chipset.

Any guidance or suggestion would be most appreciated

These are you motherboard drivers, audio is Realtek HD http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...1&prod_no=1141

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
