copied wp pro to legal xp home

i'd like some help please

you see i stupidly bought a pc from a comp. fare it was cheap but after a few months later i realised why. that the o.s is a copied xp pro which wont update.
i could not take the thing back so i bought a legal xp home disk.

the problem is i cannot uninstall the xp pro and the new disk says it it is too dangerous to continue about half way through the install and goes to blue screen death.

any advise would be very much appreciated , thanks.

if it is a full install version of xp home, I would wipe the drive first, then install xp home. Dban works good for wipeing the drive. Backup all of your important files first of course.

Two ways you can do it

Legal way: Reformat from scratch using the full install CD you purchased. If it is not a full install you will need to return that and purchase the right one.

Illegal way: Post edited to remove content which is against the site rules.
First Warning.

Good luck!

When you say nuked, did you create a new partition on the drive?

Xp should allow you to create a partition if the drive is good and installed properly. Check your jumper settings and power settings on your hardware.

when i say nuked the hard drive i booted my pc with a Dban floppy in the A drive i acepted the auto nuke option and let it go.
4 hours later it said i wiped my drive and then when i tried to install a legal windows xp it said it cannot find my c:\ drive

i know its there it shows up on the first black screen boot up

cute partition manager finds it and can alter it but ms. dos

Fdisk canot see it

i bought a new hard drive

installed it

booted the pc with my legal xp and my new hardrive is still missing.

it i a maxor

so i try maxblast and diskwizard and they both freeze

my pc is dead i will not spend anymore time and money on it

my advice is do not use Dban unless you intend to scrap your machine
