System Restore wont work!
I'm a total novice at this so please bear with me.
I got my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1501) about 18 months ago. It as a-squared anti-malware and AVG 7.5 installed as antivirus.
When i switched my pc on this morning, my background had changed to a picture of a pop-up saying that spyware had been detected. There is a button on the picture but it is not clickable, and there are icons over the top of it, making me think it is a background. There was also a box with a license agreement, with a button saying 'click to agree and install'.
Approximately 30 seconds after this appears, the computer switches to a blue screen saying something along the lines of 'Your PC has been switched off because there is something wrong with it'
There also appears to be a new program called Antivirus XP 2008 on my desktop, which i do not remember downloading
After searching the web, I came across other novices who'd asked and been advised to do a system restore. I have restarted my PC in safe mode and atempted to do this. However, there are no bold dates on the 'select a restore point' calendar, and it will not change the month.
Could anybody advise me on what to do, as I desparately need this PC for work and can't really afford a new one.
