Internet/networking screwed up

Hello, im just looking for any help what so ever, cause i am boggled by this one.

I was playing games yesterday like usual and all of a sudden my entire houses power surged, so naturally i just waited and turned my computer back on, along with my brother and parents, but mine had something wrong with it, not smoking or making wierd noises, it was the network/internet connection, it connects, by it doesnt thats the thing, i can use internet explorer go to any site, but when i try and use firefox no connection or when i try and do anything else like log onto xfire or play an MMO that requires internet says there is no connection, I can surf the web WITH IE but not with firefox and i also can't do anything else, including MSN it really doesn't make an inch of sense to me, just trying to seek some help.
