How to disable outlook express?
I have outlookexpress 6. At the time I didn't have another email program running, so I set up outlook. Now I have another one I like better and don't want outlook to run anymore. IE, recieve my email. Is there a way to disable it, without removing it from my computer or will it continually accept email as long as it's loaded on my computer.
Basically I have to go in once a month and delete hundreds of emails. I just want to disable it, not remove it. any suggestions??

Simply enter Outlook Express, go to Options/Accounts, and remove the account/information. (Make sure you transfer that information to your "new" email utility. Account name, send and receive servers (POP/SMTP) etc.)

So I have to strip it of all the info?? There isn't a way to keep the info and just sort of flick a switch to shut it off so to speak??

Go into TOOLS, OPTIONS, GENERAL. At the bottom set it to NOT BE the default mail handler.

it is
It is set up AS NOT the default mail program and it still gets mail everyday. At the end of the week I can open it and it will have a bundle of mail in it.
So am I left with erasing the info like you first suggested?? Or is there a way maybe outside maybe in control panels to shut if off and stop it from accepting mail.

It shouldn't be grabbing mail messages from your email account server unless it's starting somehow. Is O.E. set to automatically start on login? ie; An entry in your Startup menu or through msconfig?

no
Not that I can tell. I gave it a look and didn't find anything showing that is should be.
Let me tell you what I have. I am using Opera as my webbrowser and I am using it's internal email client. Opera is getting email and OE is getting the same email everyday too. I don't know if that helps any.
I went into MSCONFIG and looked in startup to see if OE was set to run or login and it didn't appear to be so know what?

If you prefer the Opera email, then I would remove the account information from O.E. as I stated earlier.
I haven't used Opera, but look around in its options etc and see if there is something in there which may be sending/duplicating mail to O.E..
