Smile Format Hard Drive

My daughter purchased a computer from a little shop in a small town where she lives. She has got in a mess and I want to format the hard drive, unfortunately she was not given a systems disk XP; the shop in closed down. What can I do please

Welcome to techhelpforum.

In case you're not aware, formatting the hard disk will remove everything from the disk. It will be "empty". You would need an O/S (operating system) to load onto it. (ie; a XP CD if that's your choice of O/S's.)

If you can expand a bit on "got in a mess", we might be able to straighten it out, thereby precluding purchasing an O/S CD.

Is the machine a laptop or a desktop (tower/monitor/keyboard/mouse)?

If a laptop, what is the make/brand and exact model number?
