Messenger/Skype - lose internet connection when chatting

When I am chatting on either Messenger or Skype, the window freezes after about 10 minutes conversation and my connection is lost. I am unable to get back on to the internet until I reboot. Then its back again! Does anyone have any idea why this happens? Thanks in advance for any help.
