XP Theme and sound are gone!

I was configuring startup in msconfig and when windows restarted my computer looked like windows 98, the taskbar was gray instead of blue, I went to Display Properties and The Windows XP Theme is no longer there, It only has Windows Classic, also the sound dosnt work anymore, in Sounds and Audio Device Properties it says "No Audio Device". What could have happened? in msconfig I even changed it to normal startup so that it will load everything but nothing changed, what can I do? Thanks for your help.

The Windows Security Center is not working, it says that "it has not started or was stopped" how do I get it to work again?

are you still having this problem as it has been 4 days since you posted about the issue?

If you are still having the problem drop a further post and I will see what can be done about this. Have you still got the original Windows XP CD? If not then you will need to locate this. We are not going to go through formatting or anything drastic, but more of a repair.

Another option is that you can always go into Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Restore and as long as you have got this enabled then reset it back to a date that you know everything was working. Your files will not be deleted by a system restore, it will simply just change all system files that have been altered. on Windows XP this is sometimes the easiest fix for what you are describing.

If I have not resolved the problem then reply to this thread and we can see what else it could be.
