Internet Connection Problems...

Hello all. I was hoping someone could help me with a little problem I have, actually it's a big problem.

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a Belkin N Wireless USB Adapter for my desktop so that we could put the wireless router in another room. The room I'm in now doesn't have coax hook-up. My laptop has buit in WiFi, so we're okay with that.
Anyway, yesterday, I restarted my computer to give it a break and I couldn't get the internet. It's showing a connection from the computer to the router, but not to the Internet. The odd thing is the laptop is working fine, so it can't be the Internet.
I talked to Verizon about this several times and they can't figure it out either. Everything looks fine on their end, I can even submit the IP address for the Verizon site and pull it up. But that's it.
Could it possilby be the adapter? Is it my computer? I'm pretty proficient in computers, but networking baffles the heck out of me. Please help.

Also, I was trying to pull up my command prompt yesterday, and each time I typed in cmd in the run part, my screen would go blank and the desktop icons woud come back up. Same thing when I went through my accessories on the start menu. The only thing that would pull it up was if I typed command instead of cmd. Any thoughts on that one?

Thanks for your help.

Was this setup working previously prior to yesterday?

If so you might try a System Restore to a point prior to your problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Thanks jephree!! I didn't even think about that before. Works fine now and we're good to go. I can't believe the Verizon guys didn't even think of that, we were all stumped. Thanks again!

No problem. Glad all is well. System restore is Windows attempt at a Registry backup. Apparently something altered your registry.

For the future if you want even better protection and registry backup this free program, ERUNT, is what most people "in the know" use:

Let us know if we can help further in the future.
