Dvd drive burner

I would appreciate any information on adding a Dvd driver reader burner to my Dell Optiplex 260. I have added two of them in an attemt to get them to work, but my computer is not recognizing the drive exists. I first tried an Ativa then an I/O Magic drive with no success.

No, they are internal drives. I replaced the original CD reader drive.

What is the connection configuration?

Are you putting it as a slave on the HDD channel? Or a Secondary Master?

Are the jumpers correct? What happened to the old drive?

Are you sure the channel is working? Are you sure the cable is OK?

Do they get power & light up when you start?

What is the connection configuration? I placed the new drive using the same connections as the original CD drive.

Are you putting it as a slave on the HDD channel? Or a Secondary Master? I connected it as slave.

Are the jumpers correct? According the the instructions with the drive the jumper is correct. What happened to the old drive? I removed it, because it was only a CD read drive.

Are you sure the channel is working? When I start up the computer it goes into the configuration mode and says "Secondary hard disk drive 1 not found. Strike the F1 key to coninue, F2 to run the setup utility.
Are you sure the cable is OK? It was working on the old CD drive. I loaded the Nero software that came with the new drive, and before that the computer recognized the new drive. I removed Nero, but sould not get the computer to access the new drive.

Do they get power & light up when you start? There is no light on the new drive, but it will open when I puch the eject button.

Once I hit the F1 key to continue, after the computer finished booting up, I get a message " In CD helper service is present but failed to start. In CD cannot start.

Thanks,

Try a System restore to a point before you installed Nero.

System Restore
--------------------------------------------------
You might try a System Restore to a point prior to your problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
