Can't Boot From CD

My friend brought his PC over to reload windows. Every time I put the Xp cd in the drive the PC reboots and keeps rebooting until I remove the CD. If I unhook one of the drives (rom or burner), it won't boot until, I hook the other up. Any suggestions on formatting & reloading the hard drive??
Thanks
Rick

Welcome to techhelpforum.

"Every time I put the XP cd in the drive the PC reboots and keeps rebooting"

Is the XP CD for a proprietary (brand name) machine? (ie; Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.) Or is it bought seperately from a store for "any" machine?

Are the hard disks jumpered correctly (Master/Slave/Cable Select) if they are EIDE drives? (ie; Not SATA drives.)
