I would use a bootable Linux Cd to rip out Shield Deluxe 2007 from the programs menu in Windows. But I am a full time Linux User, And I don't expect anyone that uses Windows Full Time on knowing how to do this. Reading Up on Shield Deluxe says they have phone support and irc chat also for their software. I didn't see any positive remarks about their support though. Does the computer freeze before you can remove that program using Windows Add/Remove Programs? If the computer freezes right away after Windows boots up. You could try downloading and booting up the bootable disk that I will post a link to below. It will check and maybe repair hardrive errors in case something is amiss there. Plus it has the power to read and write in NTFS.

You, or some body with skills is gonna hafta help your mom with this as doing it over the phone is not going to be enough using Bootdisk. Takes some skill. Good luck with it.
