Question XP setup disc

I backed up my windows xp setup disc, it will run setup i'm already in windows. But when i want to boot and setup from the cdrom it will not detect the disk.

Is there a file missing in the setup disk, i have tried several times with a CDRW.

Re: XP setup disc

Is your BIOS set to boot the CD prior to the hard drive?

Red face Re: XP setup disc

The bios is set ok because i was able to boot with other cdroms. Just when i try to install XP, I don't get "push any key to boot from cd". I have a burnt copy of XP, the original copy works fine. If the original is destroyed, a new XP disc is not expensive now to replace.

Thank's for your reply.

Re: XP setup disc

Are you saying that the copy XP cd will not boot ? If yes. When you made the cd did you extract or download the cd boot image file ? Not talking about the files you will see when you explore the cd. Do a google for 'make xp boot cd'

Re: XP setup disc

Success!

I did the search and found this page: Making a XP Bootable CD

I have the Nero burning program and i needed to copy the files off my original XP cd to a folder.

Mostly, you were right about the cd boot.img file

Followed the instructions on the page and restarted my computer, and then the "push any key to boot from cd" prompt came up and i had the option select R or install xp.

Thank you for all your help.
