Please Help!! Primary Master Hard Disk Failed
Hey Guys,
I have a pentium4 2.4ghz, 512ram, gigabyte motherboard.
i was burning a dvd and it suddenly stopped at 70% i waited about a half hour to see if it would go but it was stuck at 70%
so then i restarted my computer and everything went bad after that. it wouldnt boot up correctly and it found errors in my system folder. so i started to format my C://hard drive and install windows xp again but when it was formatting it got stuck at 34% for hours didnt know what to do so i turned computer off.
now when i boot up it says Primary Master Hard Disk Failed.
Press F1 to continue or press del for bios.
what do you guys recommend i do?? i dont wanna screw my computer up anymore then i already have, i know i lost all my C:drive but i dont wanna lose my other hard drives too.
thanks to anyone who helps out and sorry for not being more computer smart.

Open the tower and check to make sure the drive's connectors are seated securely at the drive and at the motherboard end.

Re: Please Help!! Primary Master Hard Disk Failed
Then, when you've done that, see if it boots up OK.
If it doesn't, restart it again and, as soon as it switches on, press [Delete] or [Enter] repeatedly (once every second) until the blue BIOS screen appears. Use the cursor keys to select the Auto-Detect Hard Disks option. When it finishes a few seconds later, go to 'Save & Exit' or 'Exit & Save Changes' or whatever similar option you have.
Reboot. Is it OK now?

Re: Please Help!! Primary Master Hard Disk Failed
You can try slaving the drive into another computer, friends maybe, and try to retrieve it that way.

Re: Please Help!! Primary Master Hard Disk Failed
The only other thing i can suggest is get hold of a bootable linux cd like knoppix. Boot up with the cd in and allow knoppix to load. You may then be able to see whats on that drive. If you cant browse it its history. If you can I suggest getting a spare drive, slaving it into the comp, boot with knoppix and copy the stuff onto the slave.
